F.A.Q.

I can’t make that date, what about the rest of the year? This is a one-day free event.  We do not know if it will happen next year. Unfortunately, at this time, there is not an easy way to recycle electronics, especially televisions and computer monitors. However, many items are taken locally at various stores or non-profits. Please check with Better World Betty to find a spot to recycle a specific item.

What if it snows or the weather is bad? This is rain or shine and you won’t have to get out of your car.  Staff and volunteers will empty your electronics for you.  If it is bad snow the snow date is Saturday February 7th.

Can I come with more than one load? Yes, bring as much as you want.

What about my hard drive, is this secure destruction? Yes, we guarantee your hard drive will be securely destroyed. No confidential information will go anywhere.

Can I salvage working equipment that someone gives up for recycling? Reuse is great, but this event is not about that.  This event is for recycling of electronic equipment.  Anyone seeking used equipment will be asked to leave.  The contractor for this event will test most equipment and many items that are working will be refurbished for sale.  This is part of their business model.  Further, there is insurance liability involved in this event and we cannot allow equipment to trade hands.  We recommend Charlottesville’s Freecycle.org if you are looking to give away or get just about anything!
